Join me as I share my favorite experiences that truly capture the spirit of Kona.

Exploring the Best Hiking Trails and Snorkeling

Kona is home to some beautiful hiking trails and snorkel spots. No matter your skill level, there’s something for everyone.

Get ready for an exhilarating hike and snorkel adventure at Captain Cook's Monument! This incredible trail leads you to the stunning Kealakekua Bay. Spanning 3.8 miles out and back, it's rated as intermediate, but the unforgettable snorkeling experience makes it absolutely worth every step!

Another must-see is the Akaka Falls Loop Trail. This easy 0.4-mile hike takes you through a lush rainforest and ends with a breathtaking view of the 442-foot waterfall. It’s a perfect photo spot that offers an incredible glimpse of Hawaii's natural beauty.

Must-Try Eats in Kona

After a day full of adventure, it's time to indulge in Kona’s culinary delights that you won't want to miss.

One of my favorites is Da Poke Shack. Their fresh poke bowls are flavorful and customizable. You can choose from various toppings, plus they have gluten-friendly options. We ate here for lunch almost every day it was Da BOMB!

We had an incredible dinner at Merrimans in Wimea, which was very accommodating for gluten intolerance and also offered great daily specials. Their menu is farm-to-table, ensuring it is always fresh and seasonally mindful.

If you want an elevated dining experience with a view of the ocean, head to 'Ulu at the Four Seasons. Their extensive menu includes fresh seafood and crafted cocktails (including a great mocktail menu). Be sure to book a dinner at their new Japanese restaurant upstairs Noio their black cod dolce with

maple butter, ginger chili, Hokkaido uni is to die for.

The Best Surf Spot 🏄‍♀️

Being a surfing enthusiast, I have to highlight my favorite surf spot on Kona. I am an intermediate surfer, and my boyfriend is a beginner, so we needed something that was a soft rolling wave. I have to be transparent Kona is not the most desirable island for surfing. Most spots are fairly shallow and you can easily cut your feet up and ding your board on sea urchins and the coral reef 🪸, with that being said the only spot I would even bother surfing is Pine Trees. The locals are friendly there and it is not as crowded as Kahaluu Beach Park. There are multiple breaks, which makes it desirable for all skill levels.

Excursions You Can't Miss

Kona offers exciting excursions that go beyond just beaches and hikes.

A must-do is the Manta Ray night snorkel, it is one of the best experiences I have had in the ocean, and that is saying a lot as a scuba enthusiast.

For a truly unforgettable and unique experience, consider an ocean safari tour with Kaimana. You'll get to take a small boat tour with 5-6 people max to search for marine life. Kaimana is run by a husband and wife duo that love and respect the ocean. We got to swim with bottlenose dolphins, Manta rays, and pilot whales. It’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

Finally, you have to visit the Kilauea volcano 🌋, especially if it is active. We did a hike in the evening on Crater Rim Drive; it had the prime vantage point to see the volcano.

My Go-To Hair Products

While enjoying the beautiful outdoors in Kona, I make sure my hair stays healthy and vibrant. With sun and ocean salt, having the right hair products makes all the difference.

My essential item is a leave-in conditioner by Davines called Milk. It keeps my hair hydrated and helps prevent tangles after a long day at the beach. I rely on it, especially after swimming! It has thermal protection and frizz control to assist when with a blowout.

Another must-have is my Oribe Texture Spray. It gives my hair that effortless textured look while adding volume. Plus, I love the fresh scent it provides!

Lastly, I always pack my Oi oil by Davines. It protects against sun damage, ensuring my hair stays shiny and healthy throughout my adventures.
